The restoration of the Mughal Emperor Humayun’s 16th century garden tomb, the jewel of Mughal architecture that predates the Taj Mahal, was inaugurated on 18 September 2013 by India’s Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Minister of Culture Mrs Chandresh Kumari Katoch, Chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mr Ratan Tata, and His Highness the Aga Khan.
His Excellency Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of the Portuguese Republic, and His Highness the Aga Khan presented the Aga Khan Awards for Architecture at the Castle of São Jorge in Lisbon on 6 September 2013.

In March 2008, Mawlana Hazar Imam travelled to the United Arab Emirates for a Golden Jubilee visit. During the busy four day trip, Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Jamat and presided over the historic opening of the Ismaili Centre Dubai.

On 10 March 2014, Mawlana Hazar Imam delivered the 88th Stephen A. Ogden Jr '60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs. Visiting Brown at the invitation of University President, Christina Paxson, Mawlana Hazar Imam's Ogden Lecture was part of the school's 250th anniversary celebrations.

For two years filmmaker Veronika Hofer and her crew travelled the world visiting projects of the Aga Khan's organisations and to accompany His Highness. They visited the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in Doha, they explored projects in Egypt, Kenya, and India. In London and Paris Veronika Hofer searched the archives of the Aga Khan to find the most significant images. Finally, Veronika Hofer met Karim Aga Khan for an extraordinary personal and thoughtful interview in his private home in Nairobi.
