Canada: COVID-19 – A Disease Update For Our Community

Join Dr. Zain Chagla, Dr. Karim Ali, and Moderator Shallah Jamal-Somani in a discussion about what is known about the virus, as well as the epidemiology both worldwide and in Canada. They will focus on risk factors, especially as it relates to age groups and medical conditions. The webinar is presented by frontline Infectious Disease Physicians. Dr. Zain Chagla: Completed his BSc and MD at Queen’s University, Internal Medicine Residency at Western University and an Infectious Diseases fellowship from McMaster University. He also has a Masters in Science (Infectious Diseases) and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is currently an Associate Professor at McMaster University, Co-Medical Director of Infection Control at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Niagara Health System, as well as a Consultant in Infection Control at Woodstock General Hospital. Through the COVID response, Dr. Chagla has been a part of policy planning locally, provincially, and federally. He has been a part of numerous clinical trials on COVID-19 therapies, as well as had multiple publications on COVID-19 research, epidemiology, testing, and infection control. Dr. Karim Ali: Attended Ziauddin Medical University in Karachi, Pakistan. He then went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as his Infectious Disease Fellowship at Creighton University and University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Ali joined Niagara Health in 2012 and established the Division of Infectious Diseases. He currently serves as the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Niagara Health.
